This step-by-step guide shows parents how to teach their child to read using phonetics as the base of the reading programs. It offers 100 lessons with illustrations that are color coded for clarity.

 

 

How the Brain Learns to Read

"How the Brain Learns to Read" by David Sousa

Though this book is written for teachers, it offers many excellent tips that can be incorporated into your reading program. Sousa explains brain function and applies his concepts to practical classroom activities and lessons. This book includes basic brain facts that can help students learn, insights on how the brain processes information, and tips on maximizing retention. It is an excellent book for parents who want more detail about what goes on in the brain of a child who is reading successfully and one who is struggling.

 

Overcoming Dyslexia"Overcoming Dyslexia"by Sally Shaywitz, M.D.

This book explains dyslexia and reading difficulties in young children through adults. Dr. Shaywitz lays out a home program and provides many valuable resources, including computer programs, exercises and teaching aids.

 

 

The Gift of Dyslexia"The Gift of Dyslexia" by Ronald D. Davis

The procedures in this book are clearly and simply outlined. It offers some good insight into how it feels to struggle with dyslexia. Many good techniques can be gleaned from this easy-to-read book.

Aroma Therapy: An A-Z"Aroma Therapy: An A-Z" by Patricia Davis

This is an excellent book that will expose you to the variety of scents available for your child’s olfactory program. Aroma Therapy oils are often used therapeutically for a variety of effects, though we use them specifically for the olfactory program. There are many excellent books on Aroma Therapy that will be helpful for you.

Dr. Dobson's book is a practical, reassuring guide for caring parents. Among the important points Dobson covers include:  methods of raising children, principles for commonsense parenting, reinforcement/rewards, challenging students, sex education and some Biblical reminders for raising children.
