When defining blindness, deafness or insensate disorder one must understand that it is rare to find that all three challenges are combined. Unfortunately it has been known to happen, and for those parents facing that challenge Family Hope Center offers the best hope for your child's future.

A child who has blindness, deafness or insensate due to certain factors no longer has to live under a life sentence. If the condition is caused by oxygen deprivation during birth, a brain lesion or other neurological trauma, there is a proven possibility that such a condition can be completely healed. For the child that is blind that doesn’t mean just being able to distinguish light and dark, or vague shapes. No, it is entirely possible for that child to have their sight restored and to be able learn to read normally. The same results have been seen in children who were once deaf. As a result of intense therapy these children were able to hear and learn to understand, and those who were insensate learned to feel, understand and interpret what they felt.

Perhaps that sounds impossible, but at The Family Hope Center we have seen those same results many, many times. It’s not easy. In fact, the therapy treatment designed to treat these conditions is demanding and must be faithfully followed for healing to begin. However, with the proper commitment and motivation it has been done with astonishing results.

Children who have brain-injury induced blindness, deafness or lack of sensation have usually suffered an injury in two basic areas of the brain. The first would be the brain stem, which is comprised of the medulla, pons and midbrain areas. The second area would be the cortex which is the extensive outer layer of the cerebral hemispheres, and is responsible for higher functions, as well as sensation and voluntary muscle movement.

Injuries in these areas prevent the child from being able to receive and process all types of sensory information, including seeing, hearing, feeling, and the abilities to smell and taste. Because sensory function is necessary for motor function, injuries to the sensory pathways can also affect basic motor functions such as voluntary movement and use of language.

At The Family Hope Center we have seen many of these children who have previously participated in sensory stimulation programs that targeted the injured areas of the brain. Unfortunately, the frequency, intensity and duration of the treatments were not enough to produce measureable improvement. As a result, these children, and their parents, are counseled to learn to cope with their injuries. We don’t believe that “learning to cope” should be a part of the vocabulary of anyone with these types of brain injuries. By giving the parents a comprehensive treatment program that properly targets the injury and is both intense and of sufficient duration, we have seen real healing. The blind can see and the deaf hear.

Any therapy program designed for your child will initially target the brainstem. In contrast to conventional treatments that often disintegrate into nothing more than a format for teaching coping mechanisms; our treatment is aimed at complete restoration and healing. By systematically targeting the sensory pathways, which regulate sight, smell, touch, taste and hearing, we are able to affect a return of these functions. Since all of the information must be processed in the brainstem before traveling along these sensory pathways, it is necessary for treatment to begin here before moving on to other functions like mobility, speech and manual dexterity.

This therapy program is designed to facilitate and enhance the total overall metabolic and physical, as well as neurological health. This is accomplished by drastically increasing oxygen delivery to the whole brain. This therapeutically delivered oxygen not only contributes to the overall health of the brain, but it initiates and accelerates the total healing process.

At the same time we make sure the cranial sacral mechanism is operating optimally. Failure to address the cranial sacral mechanism would result in a much slower progress. And since we believe in treating the whole child, we will develop a cleansing diet that will restore gastrointestinal health, eliminate allergies and toxins, and increase the neurotransmitter function of the brain.

This type of therapy requires the commitment and participation of all parties involved, but especially you, the parents. The staff at The Family Hope Center will educate you and give you the necessary tools so that you can be your child’s therapist. We will also be available for consultation, advice and rejoicing with you as you see your child, who was once blind, deaf or insensate, begin to see, hear and communicate in every way possible.
